Avatar: Seven Havens Revealed: Everything We Know About the Next Avatar

Avatar Studios has officially pulled back the curtain on Avatar: Seven Havens, the next animated series set in the world of Avatar: The Last Airbender. A new trailer debuted during San Diego Comic-Con on July 23, giving fans their first substantial look at the Avatar who will follow Korra and the fractured world she is expected to save.

Created by original Avatar architects Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko, Seven Havens will continue the main animated timeline rather than revisiting Aang’s era. The series is scheduled to premiere October 29 on Paramount+.

Meet the New Avatar

The story follows Pavi, a young Earthbender from a city called Allura who discovers that she is the next Avatar after Korra. Pavi will be voiced by Saheli Khan.

That discovery does not exactly come with a celebratory parade.

Following an unexplained cataclysm, the world has been divided into seven remaining strongholds known as the Seven Havens. In this era, the Avatar is no longer universally viewed as a symbol of balance and hope. Pavi is feared as a possible destroyer of humanity and becomes the target of both human and spirit enemies.

The setup immediately gives Seven Havens a darker foundation than either of its predecessors. Aang had to restore a world damaged by war, while Korra struggled to protect a rapidly changing society. Pavi may have to convince civilization that the Avatar deserves to exist at all.

The Avatar Has a Twin

One of the biggest revelations is that Pavi has a long-lost twin sister named Nisha, voiced by Aishu Devan. The sisters will work together to uncover the truth about their origins and prevent the last strongholds of civilization from collapsing.

The existence of an Avatar twin raises plenty of questions. Does Nisha possess an unusual connection to Pavi’s spiritual abilities? Was their separation intentional? Could the cataclysm have affected the Avatar Cycle itself?

Avatar Studios has not provided those answers yet, but the twins appear to sit at the center of the show’s larger mystery.

Korra Returns

The trailer also includes a brief appearance from Korra in the Avatar State. Whether Korra will appear regularly as Pavi’s spiritual guide remains unknown, but her presence confirms that the previous Avatar will remain connected to the story.

That could become especially important after Korra reopened the spirit portals and permanently changed the relationship between humans and spirits. Whatever destroyed the old world may be connected to decisions made during or after her lifetime.

Two Books Are Already Planned

Avatar: Seven Havens will contain 26 half-hour episodes divided into two 13-episode Books. The series is being produced in 2D animation by Nickelodeon Animation, maintaining the visual tradition of Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra.

DiMartino and Konietzko serve as co-creators and executive producers. Ethan Spaulding is also an executive producer, while Sehaj Sethi serves as co-executive producer. Original franchise composer Jeremy Zuckerman will return to score the series.

The announced voice cast also includes Major Curda, Akshaye Khanna, Sakina Jaffrey, Darren Barnet and Dianne Doan. Franchise veteran Dee Bradley Baker will return to voice the new generation of animal companions.

A Very Different Avatar World

The most exciting part of Seven Havens may be how far Avatar Studios appears willing to push the universe forward.

Instead of repeating the familiar journey of a gifted child learning four elements, the new series begins with civilization already broken and the Avatar’s reputation in ruins. Pavi is entering a world that may fear her more than it needs her.

That gives Seven Havens an opportunity to examine what the Avatar represents when balance, trust and even civilization itself have nearly disappeared.

Avatar: Seven Havens premieres October 29 exclusively on Paramount+.
